A New Pet

Standard

We recently added a new pet to our house, but being in Berry’s room makes me feel a little sick because the habitat for this new pet has to be low humidity and desert hot.

His name is Spooky and he is an albino Leopard Gecko.  He is not of the sticky footed variety and he’s not a Diablo albino because he does not have the red eyes, thank goodness he doesn’t, that would just make him creepy!  His prey, meal worms, are kept in the fridge.  Isn’t he just the cutest little guy?

We found out that he squeaks when it’s feeding time and when he’s scared, he poops on you.  He doesn’t have teeth, or if he does they are so tiny you can’t feel them.  When he is hungry he will lunge for all things that move.  His tail is fat and has ridges that circle his tail and his body as you can probably tell, has little bumps all over it.  You can see through his ear membrane, all the way through his head and you can see his insides if the light is just right.  We all really like him.  He just recently shed his skin which was really cool.  They do it quickly, in about 2 hours, and they eat their skin so you have to be right there when they do it to see it.  Berry was lucky enough to catch him for part of it and got a piece of his head skin.  So, another experiment in reptiles for our house!  It’s great hands on training for this home school family.
